On May 22nd, 2008, an almost 4 week old eaglet was removed from it's nest because of a growth on the left side of it's beak. The eaglet was transferred to the Wildlife Center of Virginia, the only facility in the state licensed to provide long term care and rehabilitation for Bald Eagles. The Wildlife Center of Virginia is an internationally acclaimed teaching and research hospital for wildlife and conservation medicine located in Waynesboro. Every year, about 2500 animals - ranging from Bald Eagles to chipmunks - are brought to the Wildlife Center for care. On May 28th, the bird was diagnosed with a severe case of avian pox. The care this eaglet is receiving is amazing, as are the individuals that are doing everything they can to help this young bird that has so many names. The many national and international followers of this saga are extremely grateful that no expense is being spared to give this young eagle a chance to survive and, hopefully, one day be released back into the wild. Care is costly, however, and this is a privately funded organization that relies on donations and contributions to be able to provide the vital services that would make this all possible. As a long time watcher of the eagle pair that call Norfolk Botanical Gardens their home, I have been looking for ways that I could "give back" a little something to the birds that have given me so much enjoyment over the years. So, in order to help defray the cost of it's care, I am offering these images from the 2008 season for sale as prints and a variety of other novelties. One-half of all proceeds will be sent to the Wildlife Center of Virginia. Your support is greatly appreciated...
